If you decide to give garlic a try, chew a clove at the first sign of heartburn. If you think you may want to try it in the future, place some cloves in apple cider vinegar. When needed, take a little sip of the liquid.

Warning: Talk to your doctor before trying this remedy to make sure it will not interfere with any medication you may be taking. Have some gum, coriander seeds or sprigs of parsley available to chew on because your breath is going to smell after using this remedy.

Papaya helps with digestion and is a natural heartburn remedy.

Fresh papaya may be hard to locate. If it is not available, try dried papaya instead. Only consume a small amount.

Eat papaya before or after your meal.

Papaya contains an enzyme known as Papain that helps with digestion.

Warning: Talk to your doctor before eating this fruit if you have allergic reactions to latex. Avoid this fruit altogether if you are pregnant.

For lovers of bananas, here is some good news. This fruit may actually help with heartburn by creating a coating in your stomach. If you are one of those that bananas cause you heartburn, try another remedy.

For optimum results, eat fresh but not too ripe bananas.

Dried bananas or peeled bananas can be eaten.

It is believed, by some, that bananas are natures antacid. They coat the stomach thereby relieving heartburn.

Warning: People taking MAOI inhibitors, or those who are diabetic, need to talk to their doctor before eating bananas.

Another home remedy, for heartburn, that many swear by is apple cider vinegar.

If you feel up to it, drink a teaspoon of this vinegar by itself. Many would prefer not to even attempt that so make a little drink for you to help it go down easier.

Take some sugar, not a lot, and add it to 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Add 6 ounces of water to the mixture and a small amount of baking soda. Drink the concoction while it is still fizzy.

In the world of chemistry, apple cider vinegar is known to be base which neutralizes acid. This is why so many uses this home remedies to decrease the stomach acid. It is believed that vinegar make the esophageal sphincter contract which aids in keeping the stomach acid down.

Warning: Using vinegar to often will cause the enamel on your teeth to start to dissolve. Make sure to drink water after using the vinegar or drink it through a straw to minimize contact you're your teeth.

Last but not least, almonds can be used to relieve heartburn. So, leave some room in your stomach for this tasty remedy.

Eat a few almonds when the first sign of heartburn arises.

Almonds contain a high level of oil which counteracts the stomach acid.
